Why labor is such a big part of tile
Tile isn't clicked together like LVP. The floor has to be flat and solid, the tile gets set in mortar, then grouted. Each step needs time to set. Small bathrooms with a toilet, vanity and tight corners can take more time per square foot than a wide-open kitchen.
What pushes a quote up
- Removing old tile. It's heavy, dusty work, and it can damage what's underneath.

- Small or large-format tile. Mosaics take many more cuts. Big tiles need a flatter floor.
- Patterns. Diagonal, herringbone and mixed-size layouts take longer.

Tile or LVP?
